CANAN SAVAS
Canan Savas - Contemporary Artist, Istanbul Turkey
I like to take a strong interest in human nature and behaviors…. Carrying this concept on to my canvas, I find myself very close to my main material, wood.
I combine human being to wood ...wood is organic ,strong .it's solid structure bring all the clues what I need ,together with being alive without its roots....Wood is a challenger, strong only you can band it or give it a shape you like ,as long as it lets you...It takes decades to dry it ,so it is a winner... The most important feature of my main material is sustainability.
While wood is being compelling, it preserves whatever I give and sometimes it transforms in to something else with its own character, that eliminates the reliability. While working with wood I become ‘we’ instead of ‘I”…
I like to bring this idea and the physical existence on my canvas and combine it with human beings and regenerate..
I try to create a conflict between natural asymmetrical form of the tree and symmetrical minimal order with paper and colors in to my works
I take the regular forms that do not exist in nature, namely the square, and produce dialogues between the natural and the unnatural or even double behaviors that our societies force us to posess.
Visible is always valuable or maybe not but the emotions and the mystery are not visible ..They are hidden inside the people’s desire and effort
who wants to find and believe.
